Sou x Manna and Wood x Hoi-Ling
We are teaming up with Unlock Dancing Plaza to co-present Sonic Anchor #44: Duo Residency 2024. The two pairs of artists: Sou x Manna and Wood x Hoi-Ling have been working together since February and will demonstrate their collaborative process at McAulay Studio on May 14.
During the residency, the artists had exchange ideas and thoughts on the collaborative approaches of sound and bodily expressions. Through continuous experimentations and dialogue exchanges, we seek to foster new languages in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
Sou and Manna are pondering on their own communicative process in the approach to improvisation and depicting the differences in perspective and perception through establishing mechanisms for improvisation.
Wood and Hoi-Ling are unfolding the association of sound in both imaginative and daily situations, and the implication of actions, memories, habits, people, emotion and bodily responses in the connotation of sound. They are also interested in the exploring the intersection between text, speech and imagination, and the correlation with sound, movements and motion.
About the artists
Wood
In 2023, Wood was graduated from the Hong Kong Art School and RMIT School of Art with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts).
Her practice explores mundanity, everydayness, repetition, intimacy, subjective reality, alienation, home, public space and humanities. She explores various forms such as literal, fragmentation, documentation through creative mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, video and performance.
Sou Yan Ting
Sou Yan Ting is a Hong Kong-born musician and sound artist active in the experimental scene in Macao. He began his journey as a jazz improviser before venturing into the electronic realm, driven by a curiosity to explore dialogues between machines and other medium. His recent performances include a live-sampling-based free improvisation with saxophonist Hugo Loi at Macao Alternative Music Festival and Echoes of Silver Salt, an audio-visual composition co-produced by multimedia artist Dory Cheng and presented by CMHK Push The Envelope Sound Art Initiative. Another notable project of Sou is Faslane, a collaboration with Matthew Ho started in 2016. The duo has released Wartime Broadcasting Service via Day's Eye Records and performed at events such as Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival in Switzerland, Dao Xuan International Arts Festival in Vietnam, Kill The Silence Festival in Macao, and Twenty Alpha in Hong Kong.
Keung Hoi-Ling
Keung Hoi-Ling is born and raised in Hong Kong and transferred from the HKAPA to NSCD (2019). She is currently a resident artist at Unlock Dancing Plaza.
She graduated again from Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (July 2022) and performed a solo excerpt from “Put Out The Flame”, concept and directed by Jos Baker, as the ending note for her studying journal for now. To finish off her Europe journey, she performed at the L’atelier du Bas Cros in South of France as an invited guest artist, thus her on-going research project “54 of 206” has awarded a 4-month-research-residency in the Hong Kong Arts Centre, her hometown.
Manna
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Manna lived in Taiwan for nine years. Graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts Dance Department, she moved back to Hong Kong in 2023. Manna is currently a resident artist of Unlock Dancing Plaza.
She loves to challenge herself: swimming in the sea though she is afraid of water; she is afraid of height and cold weather, but like to do mountaineering; she loves being alone but in love with performing arts. As an adventurer, place with the sign "dangerous" is where she loves most! :D
我們和不加鎖舞踊館合辦的聲音下寨#44 : 雙駐場計劃 2024，將於五月十四日於麥高利小劇場呈現兩組自二月開始合作的藝術家：蘇恩霆 x 鄭雯娜和朱美璇 x 姜凱翎的合作過程。
在駐場計劃中，藝術家們在聲音和身體表達的協作方式上交流想法。透過持續的實驗和對話，我們期望他們在過程中培養出跨媒介合作的新語言。
蘇恩霆和鄭雯娜思考著他們在即興創作的溝通過程，並透過建立即興創作的機制來描述視角和感知的差異。
朱美璇和姜凱翎呈現聲音在想象和日常情境中的關聯，以及當中的行為、回憶、習慣、人、情緒和身體反應的聲音涵意。他們亦對探索文字、話語和想象力之間的交集，以及與聲音、動作和動態的相互關係感興趣。
朱美璇 （木）2023於香港藝術學院（澳洲皇家墨爾本理工大學合辦）畢業，獲藝術文學士學位。
其個人研究關注日常、重複性、私密感、個體感知、異化感、家、公共空間、人文關懷等議題。其創作媒介包括繪畫、雕塑、影像、行為，當中使用文字、碎片化、紀錄等形式。
蘇恩霆，音樂人和聲音藝術家，活躍於澳門實驗場景。近期演出包括澳門另類音樂節及 CMHK推信封聲音藝術計畫，亦曾參與瑞士洛桑地下電影音樂節、澳門Kill The Silence藝術節及香港Twenty Alpha音樂活動。
姜凱翎於香港土生土長，在2019年從香港演藝學院轉讀Northern School of Contemporary Dance，並以一級榮譽畢業。現為《不加鎖舞踊館》駐團藝術家。
2022年，姜凱翎自薩爾斯堡實驗舞蹈學院畢業，表演由約斯・貝克構思及導演的《火滅》 中的單人選段。她亦曾作地域特定的個人表演，於法國南部的 La Bas Cros工作室作為客席藝術家演出。歐洲之行後，她的研究項目《206之54》獲選加入香港藝術中心為期四個月的駐場藝術家計劃，並受邀於Art Central 2023 及La Bas Cros工作室展演。
香港土生土長，曾旅居台灣九年。雯娜畢業於臺灣藝術大學舞蹈系，2023年回港。目前為不加鎖舞踊館駐團藝術家。
喜歡挑戰自己，怕水但去游大海；怕高怕凍但去行高山；怕人群但中意表演藝術。明知山有虎，偏向虎山行就是好奇寶寶的最佳形容！:D
