Performers: Changcun Wang, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble
We concluded our 2016/2017 concert season with a heavy-duty double bill. In collaboration with the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, we delivered on our promise to present British composer Cornelius Cardew’s graphical notation epic, Treatise. Treatise a graphic musical score comprising 193 pages of lines, abstract symbols, and geometric shapes. The massive score, itself a work of art, took the composer 4 years to complete. What made this rendition extra special is the fact that HKNME was supported by sound artist / electronic musician /programmer / noise-maker Wang Changcun. Wang is a pioneering figure in sound art in China and had appeared on numerous experimental music and sound art compilation CDs, including the iconic compilation “AN ANTHOLOGY OF NOISE: ELECTRONIC MUSIC #4” released by Sub Rosa. This performance of treatise was accompanied by projections of the graphical notation, which the musicians will read from in real time.

Performer: Hong Kong New Music Ensemble
Founded in 2008, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble (HKNME) is hailed as “one of Hong Kong’s most progressive groups of musicians” (CNN). Widely praised for its innovative programming, the Ensemble’s productions include concerts, educational outreach events, and interdisciplinary collaborations and research projects with artists from different artistic fields.
The HKNME currently consists of twelve core members and several ensemble associates who perform in versatile combinations in a variety of settings. Over the years, the HKNME has performed masterpieces of the contemporary repertoire as well as numerous premières by composers from Hong Kong and overseas, including many commissioned by the HKNME itself.
Artist: Wang Changcun
Currently based in Hangzhou, China, Wang Changcun is a sound artist, electronic musician, and computer programmer. Wang is a pioneering figure in sound art in China. In 2003, six of Wang’s work were chosen for the very first Chinese sound art compilation CD “China: The Sonic Avant-Garde,” which was released by the American label Post-Concrete. Wang also appeared on numerous experimental music and sound art compilation CDs, including the iconic compilation “AN ANTHOLOGY OF NOISE: ELECTRONIC MUSIC #4” released by Sub Rosa.
2016/17季度的聲音下寨以一場精心設計的演出作結。今次與香港創樂團合作呈獻英國作曲家Cornelius Cardew的圖像記譜傑作—Treaties。Treatise的樂譜共193頁，以線、符號、幾何圖形構成，作曲家共花了4年時間完成這份鉅大的藝術品。演奏者須根據自己所定的規則按樂譜演奏，所以所有對此作品的演繹均不會相同。而令本次演出顯得更為特別的是聲音藝術家／電子音樂家／程式設計員／噪音製造者王長存將與創樂團合作演出。王氏是中國聲音藝術的先驅，其作品被收錄於多張實驗音樂及聲音藝術的專輯，包括Sub Rosa發行的著名的合集《AN ANTHOLOGY OF NOISE: ELECTRONIC MUSIC #4》。演出亦會配合投影，讓觀眾能與表演者一同閱讀這份樂譜。

被美國有線電視新聞網譽為「香港最前衛的音樂團體之一」，香港創樂團於2008年成立，製作包括音樂會、教育外展活動及與其他界別藝術家的研究計劃等，極具創新的演出節目備受廣泛讚賞。
香港創樂團現由十二位成員及數名副團員組成，以各種靈活組合於不同場境演出。樂團多年來演出多首當代音樂大師的經典名作，並為多位本地及海外作曲家的新作作首演，當中包括不少由香港創樂團委約創作的作品。
王長存
王氏為活躍於杭州的聲音藝術家、電子音樂、軟件興網絡藝術者。
王氏是中國聲音藝術的先驅，2003 年由Post Concrete發行全球首張中國聲音藝術選集《中國聲音前線》中收錄了六首王長存的作品。除此之外，其具象音樂作品《海鮮》亦收錄於Sub Rosa發行的《二十世紀電子音樂歷史回顧—第四輯》中。
