Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong

Get equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge required for the Summer Intensive Program. The Preparation Course will cover a range of introductory topics, including the history of sound art, simple sound recording techniques, performance practice of sound art. The participants will also learn how to build simple electronic instruments and edit recorded sounds creatively.

Summer Intensive Course

Push the ENVELOPE Sound Art Summer Intensive Program is designed by a team of professional artist teachers to providehands-on and collaborative experiences on various approaches to sound-making and listening from a cross-disciplinary perspective. From the Preparation Course to the 7-day Summer Intensive Program, the activities are guided by experienced artists to integrate a wide-range of knowledge including science, art, and technology in the process of sound-making leading towards a public group showcase. The program welcomes young students and artists, with or without prior music training, who are curious, eager, and ready to explore the sound world
beyond them.

推信封聲音藝術推廣計畫 — 夏令營是由一群專業的藝術家導師設計，提供各種跨界的聲音製作和聆聽方法的實踐和合作體驗。從營前預備班到為期七天的夏令營，活動將由多位經驗豐富的藝術家指導，將科學、藝術和科技各方面的知識，融入聲音製作之中，並引導參與者於公開展演中展示學習成果。是次計畫，不論曾否接受音樂訓練，只要對聲音世界充滿好奇心、熱情和勇於探索的學生和年輕藝術家都歡迎參加。

Public Showcase

This is a playground for the participants of the Push the ENVELOPE: Summer Intensive Course to demonstrate and present their process of developing creative concepts using sound as a medium. At the camp, we promote the value of providing a comfortable and unprejudiced environment to experiment and exchange new ideas with each other, and allowing participants to realize their creative concepts at ease. The installations, audio tracks and demonstrations were presented on the last day of the camp, and they are refined, expanded and polished for this occasion. This is not a performance, nothing presented here is a complete work of art.

The Push the ENVELOPE Sound Art Summer Intensive Program is jointly curated by Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong and two Artist Teachers, Kin Lam and Lawrence Lau, to provide hands-on and collaborative experiences on various approaches to sound-making and listening from a cross-disciplinary perspective. From the Preparation Courses to the 7-day Summer Intensive Program, the two groups of 30 participants were engaged in discussions on “What Can be Sound Art?”, workshops on DIY Electronics, Max and Ableton Live, jam sessions of electronic instruments, and guest workshops by AK Kan, Steve Hui (NERVE), Fiona Lee, Kenny Wong and Cheuk Wing Lam. The participants of the camp include secondary school and university level students and working artists between the age of 15-35, with or without prior music and art training, who are curious, eager, and ready to explore the sound world beyond them.

今次的公開展演是一個推信封聲音藝術推廣計畫﹕夏令營的參與者的遊樂場，讓他們在此示範及展示他們使用聲音作媒介發展創作概念的過程。在夏令營中﹐我們主張為參與者營造一個舒適以及沒有成見的環境，讓他們實驗及交流新的意念，協助他們將創作概念化為現實。參與者的裝置作品、聲音創作、以及現場演出都在夏令營的最後一個下午展示過，然後再在離營後的一個半月時間，繼續為今次展演發展及完善他們的作品。這次的展演並不是為了任何觀眾群而設，而是為了參與者本身。我們誠意觀迎你蒞臨見證這個時刻。

推信封聲音藝術推廣計畫﹕夏令營由現在音樂及兩位藝術家導師林建霖及劉曉江共同策畫，從跨界別的角度，為參與者提供多種方法，親身或與別人合作體驗聲音創作及聆聽聲音。由營前預備班到7天6夜的夏令營，兩組各30人的參與者經歷過DIY電子樂器、MAX 編程、使用Ableton Live剪輯聲音及演出、試玩不同電子樂器、又經歷過孫禮賢、簡僖進、 許敖山 (腦科)、李穎姍、黃智銓及卓穎嵐的客席講座，並投入到「甚麼可以是聲音藝術」的討論之中。夏令營的參與者由15歲到35歲、中學生到大學生，以至現職藝術家都有，不論有或沒有受過音樂及藝術訓練，他們都以好奇、熱情及開放的心態探索超越他們的聲音世界。

Teacher Retreat

The Teacher Retreat is designed to provide accessible sound art educational resources for in-school educators. The 6-hour Retreat includes activities of the pre-camp Preparation Course, with additional guidance on in-school implementation provided by the artist teachers.
