MAKERS MARKET
Makers Market is a space dedicated to artist-designed and artist-made instruments. Invited artists present unique works created especially for this occasion, offering fellow sound artists, makers, and enthusiasts a chance to discover and collect one-of-a-kind pieces.
From contact microphones and modular synths to pedals, oscillators, mobile instruments, ceramic bells, and even sketches—every piece in the market is handmade and self-designed by the artists themselves.

Sensing Architecture: Moving Bodies
Sensing Architecture is the foundation year of an architect's education at the University of Hong Kong, directed by Thomas Tsang, reminding our body that design is through all senses, moving beyond the visual. Moving Bodies (2025) offered an unusual opportunity: to dissect and draw inspiration from three chosen domesticated objects with a combined weight of 5 kilograms. Through this process, participants explore how sound and weight are not only ephemeral qualities but also malleable materials forarchitectural design.
Students embarked on a two-phase creative experience signals. The first phase is dedicated to composing and drawing: building a range of graphic notation to intuitively understand the sonic character and performance possibilities of three objects. This basic work leads to the second stage of invention and construction. Here, students were asked to design and program the instrument's design and construction, culminating in an original composition crafted specifically for it. The semester concludes with this composition, performed on the very instrument they built, demonstrating a complete cycle from concept to performance in the form of a parade.
The course includes a one-week marathon trip during the reading week in Indonesia with the University of Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and M Bloc Space in Jakarta. Along with cross-disciplinary workshops and lectures that have been developed in collaboration with Deb Waugh (HKU Music), Adam Neutron, Karen Yu, and Mark Tam.
The final project involves first-year students designing and building 24 instruments, with a highlight exhibition featuring performances on selected finished works—reflecting their engagement and participation in the process, affordance, and
function of the building.
Sensing Architecture: Moving Bodies in Fall 2025 is taught by a team led by Thomas Tsang with Anneli Giencke, Miho Hirabayashi, Tianying Li, Sonny Xu, and You Wu.
Sensing Architecture
Moving Bodies(2025)
Sensing Architecture: Moving Bodies 2025 年秋季課程 由曾慶豪領導教學團隊,成員包括 Anneli Giencke、Miho Hirabayashi、Tianying Li、Sonny Xu 及 You Wu。
