”Air from 445 miles away” - a media musical performance by GayBird (HK) + Wang Chung-kun (Taiwan)The title of the piece is inspired by the distance Hong Kong and Taiwan apart, which is 445 miles. It embodies not only the physical distance but also the connection between the two places. The performance will make use of a collection of custom-made wind instruments designed and hand-made by the artists from two places. Flowing air (wind) will become an essential element to create and control sound. “Air” also symbolises new ideas and new things.Widely known as a music producer, Leung Kei-chuek (GayBird) is a pioneer in blending alternative cultures with contemporary music. Being a media artist, he focuses researching on human control interface design and interactive live music performance. His awarded production Digital Hug (2011) and CouCou on Mars (2013) have been touring world-wide in various cities and media festivals. GayBird dedicates himself to expanding vocabularies in the mainstream music industry.Taipei-based sound artist Wang Chung-Kun is interested in sound art, kinetic sculpture and interactive art. His artworks consistently demonstrate a peculiar sense of beauty. With his ‘Kong-Qi’ and ‘sound of bottles,’ Wang was awarded the Kaohsiung Awards - Observer award and the first prize in Digital Art Performance Award of the Digital Art Festival in Taipei respectively.Foxconn Frequency (no.2) - for one visibly Chinese performer performed by Vicky ChowThe piece was commissioned by and premiered at the Western Front Society in Vancouver, Canada, for Vicky Chow. It is the second iteration of the “Foxconn Frequency" series by Remy Siu that represents an exploration of the disconnection between action and sound. A system was devised and tailored to the performer's body and specialties to create friction in the interactions with the system.
